Ladder Association: Ladder & Stepladders - Combined User & Inspection (LASLC1)

Course Aim

This full day course brings together the guidance on safe use of ladders and stepladders, with an additional module on ladder inspection, and is designed for any person whose duty it is to use, formally inspect and maintain ladders at work.

All courses will be delivered in English and delegates must be physically able to carry out the practical elements of the course.

Delegates can attend our training academy in Sheffield or the course can be delivered in a suitable classroom at your normal place of work (subject to a risk assessment).

  • Common manufacturing processes used, and their implications for the cost-effectiveness of repairs
  • The difference between maintenance and repairs and who is allowed to do them
  • The correct methods of disposal of equipment at the end of it’s working life

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of the course, delegates will have an understanding of:

  • Assess and determine when it is appropriate to use ladders & stepladders
  • Correctly locate and safely use ladders & stepladders
  • Visually inspect ladders & stepladders for damage before and after use
  • Legislation and regulations affecting work at height
  • Product standards and classifications for ladders & stepladders
  • Hazards affecting the use of ladders & stepladders

Delegates well be able to:

  • Inspect Ladders and Stepladders
  • Accurately record details of ladders and stepladders
  • Record findings (as outlined in PUWER ACOP 163)
  • Recommend action to be taken if faults found

Course Assessment

  • Theory – 30 Question, Multiple Choice Exam
  • Practical – S.T.E.P Assessment of a Task, Pre-Use Inspection, Carrying & Setting Up a Ladder & Stepladder, Completing the Task, Completing a Formal Inspection

Delegates who complete the theory and group exercises will receive a LadderCard & Ladder Association virtual certificate.
