Ladder Association Ladder and Stepladder Inspector (LALSI)
Course Aim
The course is aimed at people who are required to inspect ladders and stepladders enabling users to carry out and document periodic statutory inspections.
The course will give the delegate the skills and knowledge to inspect all parts of ladders and stepladders.
All courses will be delivered in English and delegates must be physically able to carry out the practical elements of the course.
Delegates can attend our training academy in Sheffield or the course can be delivered in a suitable classroom at your normal place of work (subject to a risk assessment).
IMPORTANT: It is a requirement that those attending this course have successfully completed a Ladder & Stepladder User course.

Course Content
- Relevant legislation and guidance governing the inspection of Ladders and Stepladders
- The difference between pre-use and formal inspections
- Common manufacturing processes used, and their implications for the cost-effectiveness of repairs
- The difference between maintenance and repairs and who is allowed to do them
- The correct methods of disposal of equipment at the end of it’s working life
- Theory & Practical assessments
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:
- Inspect Ladders and Stepladders
- Accurately record details of ladders and stepladders
- Record findings (as outlined in PUWER ACOP 163)
- Recommend action to be taken if faults found
